OnePlus has begun to distribute its operating system based on Android 16, named OxygenOS 16, to the OnePlus 12R as part of its worldwide update plan. This smartphone is among the first group of devices receiving the OS update in November, with older models to follow in December and the early part of 2026. The update introduces OnePlus's newest visual style, better animations, enhanced performance, and AI capabilities to the OnePlus 12R. Users in India will also receive this update. As stated in a message on the company's official community forum, OxygenOS 16 is currently being rolled out for OnePlus 12R devices, starting with users in India before it moves to other regions. This is in line with the new global timeline shared by media earlier, which confirmed that the 12R would be among the first devices to get the new OS in November 2025. Built on Android 16, it features a revamped user interface with smoother animations, updated icons and better navigation throughout the system. Many devices getting this update will also receive new AI-enhanced productivity and utility features grouped under the “Plus Mind” category, along with visual improvements.
OxygenOS 16 presents a new user interface featuring what OnePlus refers to as a Liquid Glass design. This includes refreshed icons, smoother transition effects and a more uniform visual style across system applications and menus. The update also enhances haptic feedback and system animations, making navigation more responsive. The multitasking features for the 12R are also improved with this update. Users will benefit from an upgraded Smart Sidebar that offers quicker access to applications, floating windows, and split-screen functionalities. The update refines how applications resize and switch between contexts, which is helpful for tasks requiring productivity or when switching between messaging and media apps. Other system enhancements include better memory management, optimized background activity, and more stable performance when under heavy usage. OxygenOS 16 also updates privacy settings with more detailed permission options introduced in Android 16, as well as enhancements to location and app access indicators.
Furthermore, users can look forward to improvements in the camera interface, such as smoother mode transitions and enhancements to image processing systems. While the update does not introduce new camera features unique to the OnePlus 12R, the company usually incorporates performance improvements and algorithm updates in significant OS releases.
