It is a joyous and relieving time for the fans of Rajpal Yadav, as during today's court session, the Delhi High Court allowed him to have a temporary suspension of his sentence in the case involving his debts and bounced cheques after he paid a total of 1.5 crore rupees into the account of the other party. It has been noted that this bail was granted so he could attend his niece’s wedding. Rajpal has been released on bail, with the High Court putting his sentence on hold until the next hearing, which is set for March 18. On that day, the actor must either show up in person or join the court session via video call. In 2010, Rajpal Yadav borrowed 5 crore rupees from Murali Projects Pvt Ltd, located in Delhi, to fund his first film as a director, Ata Pata Laapata. The movie did not do well at the box office, leaving the loan unpaid. Court documents indicate that seven cheques he wrote later bounced.
The legal conflict grew, and in April 2018, a Magisterial Court found Rajpal Yadav and his wife Radha guilty. He received a sentence of six months in simple imprisonment. This decision was confirmed by a Sessions Court in early 2019, after which Yadav appealed to the Delhi High Court. In 2024, the court instructed the actor to take genuine steps toward settling his large debts, but in February 2026, the court required Rajpal to surrender due to repeated failures to keep his promises to repay the money. Before he turned himself in, Rajpal expressed his feelings to Bollywood Hungama, stating something heartfelt.
Talking about not being able to pay off the debt even after many years, Rajpal said, “Sir, what can I do? I don’t have the money to give back. I can’t see another option. ”
After he was sent to Tihar Jail, several actors chose to offer financial support to Yadav and even publicly urged other industry members to assist him during this challenging period. Stars like Sonu Sood, Ajay Devgn, and Salman Khan, along with Gurmeet Choudhary, all stood by him. At the same time, many singers and filmmakers provided him with advance payments and included him in their future projects.
