Bay Area Afghan Community Reacts To 'Mother Of All Bombs'

Afghan leaders in the Bay Area have reacted to the “mother of all bombs,” a 22,000 pound weapon that was dropped in an area of Afghanistan that borders Pakistan called Nangarhar Province. They said that many civilians live in the region that was bombed by the United States.

The bomb was dropped on a cave complex believed to be used by the fighters of ISIS.

A spiritual leader of Afghan in the Bay Area said that it is a densely populated area, and he is devastated.

Abobaker Mojadidi said that there is no sympathy for the Islamic group in the Muslim part of the world, especially in Afghanistan.

“Civilians are probably at the forefront of every single air strike that has taken place in Afghanistan, in Iraq and of course in Syria," he added.

While, the pentagon has no estimations of the deaths or damages yet, President Donald Trump said that the bombing was a success.

"We have incredible military leaders and an incredible military," said Trump. "We are very proud of them and this was another very, very successful mission."

Mojadidi thinks that there is more to this than just bombarding a terrorist group target. He believes that it is a show of power to the region.

"This looks like a pretext to a much more massive, and more complex military quagmire the U.S. is engaging in."

Stephen Zunes, who is a coordinator of Middle Eastern studies at the University of San Francisco said, strategically, the attack could be ineffective.

"I'm questioning the utility of this as to whether it will make any kind of positive difference in fighting this kind of extremism," he said.
