According to the present state and federal laws, employers require to provide reasonable unpaid break time and a private space other than a bathroom to its breastfeeding employees. The space should be near to the employee's workspace to lactating mothers to pump.
Tang's legislation is co-sponsored by Supervisors Scott Wiener, Malia Cohen, Eric Mar and Norman Yee. It will allow employees to use paid breaks and meal times and also request additional unpaid break time.
Tang said in a statement that, "The goal of this policy is to remove barriers to women who want to continue with their career while maintaining the health and wellness of their child." "If we are going to ask women to return to work so soon after having a child, we must support this with strong policies that enhance their ability to continue breastfeeding through their child's first year and beyond."
